In November 2011 my wife and I purchased a 2012 Chevy Volt. We also installed a photo-voltaic (p-v) solar electric generation system and a 240-volt charger for the Volt battery. This site documents our experience with our Volt and the solar charging system. I hope the included information is helpful to others considering a similar purchase. See the blog page for recent information.

2/23/2012 news release.  Those of you considering buying a Volt for use in California, be aware that a new low-emissions version of the Volt is being manufactured that will meet California clean-air requirements. If you buy the California Volt you will be eligible to use high-occupancy lanes on the freeways with only the driver in the car. You will also be eligible to apply a $1500 rebate to your California income tax. Sorry to say that if you own a standard Volt it cannot be easily retrofitted to be compatible with the California requirements, according to a GM source.

About Me

My name is Elden Sandy. My wife, Bea, and I live in coastal Southern California.

I am a retired electronics engineer. Since retiring in 1997 I have dedicated my life to Christian activities that I support with prayer and action.

For eight years I was the construction manager for Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County .

Between 2005 and 2010 my wife, Bea, and I were missionaries to Papua New Guinea where we taught classes at Ukarumpa International School. Most of our students there were children of Christian missionaries from around the world doing literacy work and Bible translation in that country.

I am now teaching computer classes at Cornerstone Christian Schools in Camarillo, CA.

Bea and I enjoy gardening in our backyard. I coordinate the student garden at Cornerstone Christian Schools where Bea and I present gardening classes.

Beginning in the 1970's we have tried to make informed, environmentally-friendly decisions that were also economical. On November 26, 2011 we purchased a 2012 Chevy Volt. We also installed a photo-voltaic (p-v) solar electric system and a 240-volt charger for the Volt battery.
